CERA (Continuous Erythropoiesis Receptor Activator) is actually a form of EPO that has a longer lasting effect without repeated dosing (via a high half life). Chemically, it is extremely similar to EPO, with the addition of polyethylne glycol molecule that gives the drug its longer lasting effect. Commercially (in the US) it is also know as MICERA, though it is not for sale (drug companies arguing over patent). In regards to preformance enhancement, once a level of optimum "performance" (more red blood cells/higher hemoglobin level) is established, the individual only needs to inject him/herself on a monthly basis (usually) to maintain the level performance/blood quality (specifically, hemoglobin levels). This is in contrast with first generation EPO, where you needed to inject the drug in a much smaller window of days, sometimes hours for there to be an effect. For anemic patients this obviously means less dosing, which I would say would make me happy; for dopers it means less noticable signs - fewer chances of getting caught in the act, less drugs to carry around, and hemoglobin levels should stay roughly at the same level throughout competition making it more difficult to catch.
