In a much trumpeted legal flare-up, Specialized had sued Volagi - a start up created by former big S employees, with a name that sounds like Bulgarian influenza - over trade secrets. So now Volagi has essentially 'won'.
"Specialized not only claimed that Volagi’s comfort endurance bike takes sales away from the Roubaix, but it also claimed that the look of the bike was copied from its bikes, a point rejected by the court. “We can actually still keep our red color,” Choi chuckled. “Specialized doesn’t own that. It bordered on ridiculous their claim that they owned that color.”
Really? You know what seems ridiculous? That red, white and black is the only fucking color combo in the entire spectrum suitable for a 'suspension/disc' road bike (er, sorry, comfort endurance bike). All hail the little start up, but c'mon, does anyone else think these guys were either calculating antagonizers or clueless idiots for making their 'new' bike look almost exactly like their old boss's rigs? Someone dodged a bullet and got free press along the way-ballsy. And hey Specialized - guess what - all carbon bikes look pretty much the same, probably because they're all made from the same tubesets in the same factories in Taiwan. Go Ride Steel.
